Samsung Galaxy S5 vs. HTC One 2 Launch WAR Coming? (Report) [Release Date Rumors, Specs Update]

The launch of the HTC One 2, aka the HTC M8, may be getting in the way of Samsung's Galaxy S5 launch plans, according to a new report.

The next-gen HTC smartphone is being scheduled for a March launch in New York City, which would conflict with a launch within the same timeframe for the Galaxy S5, according to leaker evleaks.

HTC One successor tipped to launch in late March, “looks strikingly like” the One

We know the successor to the HTC One is coming fairly soon — evidence of the device has been leaking like a sieve.

We know that it will likely bear a resemblance to the HTC One, which launched last April, with a 5-inch 1080p display, a powerful Qualcomm processor, an improved UltraPixel camera, a larger battery and a new version of Sense. Perhaps it will even have two rear cameras, one to help the main sensor focus in low-light situations.

According to @evleaks, one of the more reliable leak providers around, the HTC One successor will launch in New York City at the end of March, and “looks strikingly like” the HTC One itself. This is not a surprise: reactions to the HTC One design were overwhelmingly positive, and the company figured out a way to cram stereo front-facing speakers into a thin, sleek, metal smartphone.

HTC One 2 Rumored to Crash Galaxy S5 Launch Window

The HTC One 2, or HTC M8, will reportedly launch in New York City in late March, marking the return of a heated rivalry as rumors also suggest Samsung is planning aGalaxy S5 launch event in a similar timeframe.

The next step: ECP seeks top court’s guidance on LG polls

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has sought guidance from the Supreme Court regarding the local government (LG) elections.

A senior official revealed to The Express Tribune that the ECP has submitted an application in the apex court after the Sindh and Lahore High Courts’ decisions to set aside the delimitation of wards in the two provinces as well as the recall of an earlier election schedule with the apex court’s permission.

The source said the SC has fixed the hearing of the application for Thursday and the commission will inform the SC that the federal government has yet to complete the process of legislation regarding polls in Cantonment Areas as well as Islamabad. “We will request the SC to issue directions to the federal and provincial governments to arrange the LG elections as the ECP’s job in this regard has been completed,” the official said.

He added that the Lahore High Court had not issued a detailed verdict about LG elections in Punjab when the delimitation process was set aside and the ECP was asked to start new delimitation in the province.

Today’s iPhone is more useful than $3,000 worth of gadgets from a 1991 Radio Shack

Buffalo writer Steve Cichon dug up an old Radio Shack ad, offering a variety of what were then cutting-edge gadgets. There are 15 items listed on the page, and Cichon points out that all but two of them — the exceptions are a radar detector and a set of speakers — do jobs that can now be performed with a modern iPhone.

The other 13 items, including a desktop computer, a camcorder, a CD player  and a mobile phone, have a combined price of $3,071.21. The unsubsidized price of an iPhone is $549. And, of course, your iPhone is superior to these devices in many respects. The VHS camcorder, for example, captured video at a quality vastly inferior to the crystal-clear 1080p video an iPhone can record. That $1,599 Tandy computer would have struggled to browse the Web of the 1990s, to say nothing of the sophisticated Web sites iPhones access today. The CD player only lets you carry a few albums worth of music at a time; an iPhone can hold thousands of songs. And of course, the iPhone fits in your pocket.
