MANILA, Philippines - 2013 saw the growth of the phablet market - a new segment of users that wanted smartphones with screens bigger than the average phone but smaller than the average tablet.
I’d like to say every major player released a phablet in 2013 - but Apple is, for now, stubborn about the 4-inch iPhone form factor. Every major Android manufacturer did though, and before the end of the year, so did Windows Phone 8 manufacturer Nokia.
The 6-inch Nokia Lumia 1520 is a BIG step into this new space, literally and figuratively.
Believe it or not (and I’m not sure why it took this long) it’s the first Windows Phone 8 device with a Full HD display, a standard on most high-end smartphones since the second half of 2012. But it was worth the wait: with Nokia’s Clear Black technology that ensures deep blacks and vibrant colors, this 367ppi display is absolutely gorgeous, even outdoors.
