HTC Dials In To Cheap Smartphones For Year-End Reprieve

HTC ’s high-end smartphones are getting weak reception. Competition has tightened, pushing the Taiwanese developer behind Apple AAPL -1.21% and Samsung since its 10.7% market share peak in 2011. Internal issues further frustrate the 17-year-old firm’s effort to sell its One series of premier phones this year. HTC posted a 6.3% loss in the third quarter after ominously slim profits since late 2012.
